About us

Creativity, culture, and the arts are essential to people's lives and communities. M-Tafsiri Africa is a community-based organization that empowers children and youth in Kenya through music. We started our nonprofit work as a group in 2005 and became a registered organization in 2018. To reach more people, we organize cross-cultural exchange programs, workshops, performances, traditional music training, mentorship, and life skills coaching for children and youth.

Our programs aim to promote Kenyan traditional music, support young people and communities, and encourage cross-cultural learning in East Africa and the rest of the world.

M-Tafsiri Africa is part of the JMI network and started Ethno Kenya.

Our Vision

Use art as a medium to create artistic and cultural spaces of exchange and learning and involve the community, children, and youth to create a self-sustaining livelihood.

Our Mission

Support children and youth who are facing social marginalization, isolation, and discrimination to achieve inclusive societies, cultural diversity, and equal dignity for all.

Our values

1. To serve as a platform for the exchange of experiences and knowledge.

2. To capacity build, promote mutual learning and innovative thinking and strengthen community participation in development cooperation.

3. To be inclusive of all people, and all ages, regardless of background, gender, sexual orientation, or religion and work actively to counter all forms of racism and discrimination.

M-Tafsiri Africa operates within the creative and cultural sectors. The organization facilitates artistic expression and promotes collaborative initiatives among industry stakeholders.

We have a particular emphasis on supporting young people, as well as underprivileged and marginalized individuals.
